CentropeMAP is a cross-border geoportal of the Austrian Planning Association East (PGO) which gives planners, decision makers, researchers, teachers, students and everyone else interested a better overview of the Centrope region.
CentropeSTATISTICS is a powerful extension of the geoportal allowing its users to create maps, charts and animated graphics from statistical data on municipality level with a few mouse clicks.

Tree cover density impacts ecosystems and urban areas by regulating temperature, improving air quality, enhancing biodiversity, and reducing noise. Higher density typically enhances environmental benefits, such as lowering urban heat, but excessive density in specific biomes can hinder biodiversity and increase vulnerability to storm destruction. Rising housing costs have been a hot topic in the media for some time now. But how have housing costs actually changed over the last few years? The statistics can provide the answer. We take a look at the percentage of the population living in a household where total housing costs (net of housing allowances) represent more than 40% of the total disposable household income (net of housing allowances). Although there has been an increase since 2019, when looking at the last 12 years (2014–2024), the proportion of the population facing excessive housing costs has actually fallen – both in the individual Centrope countries and compared to the EU average.

20 March is the international day of luck. Isn't it a piece of luck if there are green areas near your home? Several studies show that people living near natural areas, parks or trees enjoy a higher quality of life, experience less stress and have better mental health. The tranquillity and natural surroundings have a calming effect and promote well-being. To visualise this, green and natural areas from Urban Atlas 2012 are combined with the built-up structure from the Global Human Settlement Layer.

Chart of the month February
In close relation to February's map of the month, we are looking at the age dependency ratio in the Centrope countries, which is defined as the sum of population ages 0-14 and 65+ divided by the population aged 15-64 (i. e. the persons conventionally considered of working age). The chart shows an overall increase over time in all Centrope countries, the highest growth rate can be seen in Slovakia.
